Naked man with knife climbs Melbourne scaffolding to escape police

A naked man, allegedly armed with a knife, has been arrested after scaling several storeys of scaffolding at a building site in Melbourne's CBD.

Police were called to the corner of Swanston St and Flinders Lane at around 6.30am today (local time).

Officers used capsicum spray while trying to restrain the man but he escaped and climbed several storeys of scaffolding at a Metro Tunnel construction site.

The building site was evacuated as a precaution but no injuries were reported, police told 9News.

A critical incident team were brought in to negotiate with the man before he was Tasered and arrested.

"He was taken to hospital under police guard."
