Aus hockey player arrested allegedly trying to buy cocaine in Paris

An Australian hockey player has been arrested after allegedly buying cocaine in Paris.

A 28-year-old member of one of Australia's field hockey teams was taken into custody after making the purchase on a street in the capital's 9th arrondissement, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The alleged seller was also arrested.

In a statement today, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirmed "an Australian hockey team member is in custody after being arrested in Paris on August 6th".

"No charges have been laid. The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member."
