A further four gang members have been arrested following a "public brawl" which allegedly resulted in two people being stabbed and two others struck by a vehicle in Wairoa over the weekend.
An "altercation between teenagers" on Saturday escalated into a "large-scale fight" after adults – including members and their associates – got involved around 3pm, Acting Tairāwhiti Area Commander Inspector Darren Paki said yesterday evening.
"At least two people were moderately injured after receiving stab wounds and two people were struck by a vehicle."
Two people, aged 23 and 27, were arrested today and charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence, and unlawful assembly to disturb the peace for their involvement in Saturday’s altercation.
The 23-year-old was also charged with assault with a blunt instrument.
A 30-year-old man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, while a 34-year-old man was charged with receiving property.
Four gang members were arrested after search warrants were carried out yesterday.
"The investigation into the altercation is progressing well, and police have more activity planned in the coming days," Paki said.
"We are disappointed by the events of Saturday, and want to thank the members of the Wairoa community for their cooperation and support while additional Police staff have been visible in town.
"Our support to the community will continue, and we remain to work closely alongside the Wairoa District Council and partners."
Anyone with information was asked to contact police.
