Police vehicles allegedly rammed during Hawke's Bay pursuit

The incident began at around 10am this morning when officers tried to pull a vehicle over in Camberley, Hastings.

A man has been arrested in Havelock North after he allegedly rammed two police vehicles during a pursuit.

The incident began at around 10am this morning when officers tried to pull a vehicle over in Camberley, Hastings, so they could speak with the driver about a burglary.

"The driver instead fled from Police, and a pursuit was initiated," a police spokesperson said.

"During the incident, the driver allegedly rammed two police vehicles."

The man attempted to escape on foot, abandoning his vehicle in Gardiner Place, Havelock North. Police allege he was in possession of a firearm.

As a result, cordons were set up, and nearby schools were advised to go into lockdown "as a precaution".

A 43-year-old man was taken into custody "without incident" at around 10.45am.

"Schools have been advised and have returned to their normal day, and Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident," police said.

"Charges are currently being considered."
