A flight headed for Montevideo, Uruguay, from Madrid was diverted after severe turbulence left 30 people with minor injuries.
The Air Europa flight then landed in northeastern Brazil at Natal Airport after making an emergency landing at 2.32am Monday (local time).
"Our flight bound for Montevideo was diverted to Natal due to strong turbulence," Air Europa said in a translated post on X.
"The plane landed normally and those injured of varying severity are already being treated," the post read.
In a statement reported by Reuters, Rio grande do Norte state government health secretariat said 30 travellers were taken to hospitals in the area with orthopedic traumas or minor abrasions.
The airline also said another plane was set to fly to the area from Madrid later in the day to gather passengers and continue their trip to Uruguay.
