From the traditional black blazer, to a fern-emblazoned bum bag, the New Zealand Olympic team’s suitcases are packed with gear for the upcoming games.
This week, more that 400 suitcases – for 190 athletes and the support staff – will be flown to the French capital.
It’s like Christmas-come-early for those who’ll wear the silver fern among the world’s sports stars at the Olympic village.
Billy Stairmand was kind enough to give Breakfast a look at what goodies are contained within the black bags.
“It’s exciting because it’s almost a way of showing that you’re a part of the team," he said.
“Surfing’s an individual sport but being immersed in that team spirit and team vibe is so rewarding.”
Among the merchandise is a reversible bucket hat, track suits, bespoke shoes, slides, t-shirts galore, and of course, the more formal wear for the opening and closing ceremonies.
And there’s even a style guide to ensure the appropriate clothing is worn for different occasions.
