Industrial action that has hindered Auckland travellers since earlier this month will be temporarily halted — allowing Super Rugby fans to get "to and from the big game" tomorrow evening.
Rail and Maritime Transport Union, in released a statement today, said: "Auckland rail workers have temporarily lifted industrial action on Saturday, June 22 to make sure the public get safely to and from the big game."
The Blues and Chiefs meet in the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific Final at Eden Park, just after 7pm.
Rail and Maritime Transport Union general secretary Todd Valster said the union workers didn’t want to disrupt the thousands of fans who might be using trains to get to Eden Park and out afterwards.
The partial industrial action would continue on Sunday, June 23.
From June 8, union members have refused to work overtime or any shifts that varied from their master roster.
Auckland Transport has advised that additional train and bus services will run on Saturday to accommodate increased usage of the public transport network.
After the game, passengers travelling to the city or those transferring to other train lines will board from either platform at Kingsland Station. Passengers travelling westbound will board at Morningside Station.
There will also be direct buses to and from Eden Park for North Shore match-goers using the Northern Busway.
