June 5, 2024

A two-year-old boy was believed to have been following his family's puppy when he was pulled unresponsive from a dam southwest of Melbourne yesterday.

Police were called after Luka Huddle went missing from his home in Lara, Geelong, around 5.20pm, 7News reports.

The toddler was pulled from a dam near their home by a searchers and given CPR, but he died at the scene.

His mum Karin Huddle said her only son was "an adventurous little boy".

"He wandered off with his puppy, Poppy. We believe they’ve wandered off across the road and found a dam."

Karin Huddle said she ran towards the dam after noticing Poppy had returned home wet.

A GoFundMe page has since been set up for his grieving family.

The fundraiser's organiser, Karin Huddle's cousin Erin Kester, wrote: "Our hearts are breaking at the sudden shock of this event and the passing of dear beautiful cheeky little Luka who was always full of life and energy".

"I ask that you please make a donation, no matter how big or small, to help Karin as she processes the loss of her beautiful boy, and to help cover any costs involved during this time, due to financial strain and costs involved with his funeral and memorial.

"In the arms of the angels, our beautiful little Luka Jade Edward."
