Car thieves run over one of their own in 12-tonne tank during robbery

A group of luxury car thieves ran over one of their own while trying to steal a 12-tonne antique military tank from a Queensland workshop last week.

Three men broke into Mark Trueno's workshop to steal his prized car collection on Friday.

One robber went to the rear of the tank with an angle grinder when another tried to reverse the military vehicle and crushed him against a bollard in the process.

Trueno told 9News it looked like the group had come prepared.

"They've got a crowbar, a grinder, a torch, everything except their own brain apparently."

The driver then climbed out of the vehicle, emptied several drawers and left while the injured man was still pinned against the bollard by the tank.

"The CCTV reminded me of like Home Alone where there's clown criminals just doing things over and over just wrong," said Trueno.

The thieves still managed to steal the keys of three cars worth over NZD$540,000.

Trueno said it was "really upsetting" to see.

"These are two of my dream cars from when I was a kid.

"Then just to see someone bust down the doors and try take them — 12 tonnes of military vehicle thwarted their plan."

The 12-tonne tank was being restored to raise money for a charity that builds wheelchair-accessible vans.
