Five people were arrested, and another was taken to hospital, following a street brawl in Te Puke in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to Dunlop Rd at around 2.45am, in response to reports that a group of people were "fighting in the street".
On arrival, some of those involved in the scrap fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was launched.
"The pursuit was abandoned within 10 minutes, and the vehicle was located abandoned in Greerton just after 3am," a police spokesperson said.
After a "short search" by police on foot, including a dog squad, five people were taken into custody.
"One further person is in a serious but stable condition in Tauranga hospital following the disorder."
An investigation into the brawl was ongoing. "Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the disorder or have any footage, including CCTV".
Anyone with information is being asked to call police on 105.
