One dead after car crashes into tree in Whangārei

One person has died after a vehicle crashed into a tree in Whangārei early this morning.

Emergency services responded to the Kamo Rd scene at about 12.45am.

"Sadly, one person was pronounced deceased at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

A second person was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"The Serious Crash Unit was in attendance and an investigation is now underway into what has occurred," police said.

"Our thoughts are with the person’s whānau and friends, and we are ensuring there is support available for them at this difficult time."
