Tributes are pouring in from the world of boxing and mixed martial arts for Francis Ngannou, who is mourning the loss of his toddler son Kobe.
Ngannou, a UFC heavyweight champion who enjoyed a big rise in profile after pushing Tyson Fury close in a boxing fight in Saudi Arabia before losing in emphatic fashion to Anthony Joshua last month, posted his own tribute overnight.
"Too soon to leave, but yet he's gone. My little boy, my mate, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy. Now he's laying without life," Ngannou wrote.
It is unknown how Kobe died.
Former five-time UFC champion Conor McGregor wrote on Twitter: "I am so sorry to hear of your loss Francis, my prayers are with you and your family at this time."
Frank Warren, the English boxing promoter, wrote: "Thoughts and prayers are with @francis_ngannou and his family. Terribly sad news."
Ngannou, 37, a French Cameroonian from a modest background, shot to prominence as one of the hardest punchers in the UFC.
After claiming refugee status, he was homeless for months in Paris.
Ngannou appeared set for a breakout career in boxing after knocking down Fury several times in their fight, which Ngannou lost by decision, but a devastating defeat by knockout to Joshua has left his career in the balance.
