Dozens of firefighters battled a six hectare fire in Hawke's Bay overnight after a burn off got out of control.
A helicopter was being sent in this morning to monitor hotspots following the large scrub fire in Waiwhare, west of Napier.
Fire officers arrived at the scene off River Rd at around 9.30pm and activated a third alarm, the highest level, when the scale of the fire became apparent.
The fire burned six hectares at its peak, with FENZ responding with a total of eight pumps, three tankers, and seven support vehicles.
A spokesperson said crew were able to get the fire under control and that vehicles began to withdraw between 3am and 5am.
No homes or people were in danger.
