At 7.05am on Tuesday, Glenn Sutton set off on his latest crazy adventure - 617 kilometres running non-stop from Milford Sound to Dunedin.
While the 50-year-old is no stranger to a challenge, this run will be his longest yet and the first time he's ever clocked more than 600km.
Footage supplied from the team supporting him on his journey shows Sutton speaking to a GoPro as he is about to run into the Homer Tunnel, which is 1.2km in length.
Sutton can be heard in disbelief "wooohooo - all to myself, happy days".
1News caught up with the Dunedin runner ahead of his quest, where he admitted he was a little nervous.
"It's pretty crazy I must admit, a bit scary," he said.
Sutton's route started in Milford Sound, then venturing over the Crown Range, through the Lindis Pass, down the Waitaki Valley, over the Danseys and then all the way home to Dunedin.
Non-stop running for five days, it's expected to take the runner 110 hours, with the hope he makes it back to Dunedin on Saturday.
"There's so many things that could go wrong," said Sutton.
"It's mentally hard, I'll be eating and drinking along the way and have possibly four to five power naps."
Sutton is no stranger to a bit of pain, over the years he's run the Dunedin Marathon wearing a homemade beer can.
But his biggest achievement is knocking off Death Valley which is 217 kilometres in 50-plus degree heat.
In his latest trek Sutton is raising funds for mental health in the farming community, with the ambition to remind everyone, including himself that "pain is temporary, memories are forever so just go for it if you've got that goal, no pressure of course".
"Just get out there and get it done."
