Watch: Runaway concrete saw blade narrowly misses man

April 1, 2024

An Oregon man narrowly escaped serious injury when a metal blade from a concrete saw came loose at a nearby construction site.

Security footage captured the man's remarkably lucky escape after the huge blade flew through a car park and lodged itself into a building he had just entered.

Shane Reimche had gone to the Quick Trip Market in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday (local time).

He had barely made it into the shop when the blade slammed into the door.

"I mean, obviously it wasn’t my time but probably closest I’ve ever experienced," Reimche told ABC News.

"I was walking into the store here, I put my hand on the door and I heard a loud bang and yelling here at the corner."

Reimche said he was petrified by the whole ordeal, adding: "I had tears all night. It was petrifying. I was shaking in the store.

"It took a little while before I could talk. That thing was huge, you can see the hole in the wall. I’m thankful to be here.

"I was thinking maybe it’s my time, I don’t think I would’ve survived being touched by that thing.

"I need a beer. I'm still shaken. It's 9 o'clock. I'm not going to work today."

Store owner Amit Grewal was serving customers and said the impact of the blade was so powerful it shook the building.

"We were standing behind the counter, all I heard was metal rolling down the street."

The saw blade came from a nearby construction site where a leaky gas valve was being fixed.

One contractor who witnessed the incident said the blade could have come loose from a missing bolt as well as potential operator error.
