Watch: Disaster as Williamson run out in calamitous fashion

March 1, 2024

New Zealand's first innings against Australia at the Basin Reserve has got off to the worst possible start, with star batsman Kane Williamson run out for a duck in calamitous fashion.

The Black Caps were already under pressure, with Tom Latham being bowled by Mitchell Starc for 5, seeing Williamson walk out to the crease in the fifth over.

But things went from bad to worse for New Zealand, as Williamson bunted Starc down the ground second ball and called Will Young through for a quick single, only for the two to collide mid-pitch and Williamson run out by a direct hit from Marnus Labuschagne.

It is Williamson's first duck in over a year and a huge blow to New Zealand's chances in the first Test.

The misery continued as Rachin Ravindra was also dismissed for a duck the following over, as the Black Caps slid to 12/3.
