A man has been arrested following a fatal attack at a Kāinga Ora property in Auckland’s Mt Albert earlier this week.

Police were called to the unit on He Ana Way around 1.15pm on Monday – finding two people with injuries "ranging from serious to critical".

It is believed they were known to each other.

Despite first responders’ best efforts, one of the men died at the scene.

The 25-year-old, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the altercation, had initially been charged with assault.

As police continued their investigation through the week, the charge was upgraded to murder.

He was due to appear via an audio-visual link at the Auckland District Court later today.

“While our enquiries are continuing, we can advise we are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to this incident,” Detective Senior Sergeant Lisa Anderson said.

“We are continuing to appeal to the public for any information which may assist us with our investigation.”

They are asking anyone with information to call 105.

“At this stage, Police are not in a position to release the name of the victim but will look to do so in due course.

“Updates will be provided as available, however as the matter is before the court, we are limited in further comment around the incident.”
