February 27, 2024

Two bodies have been found in the search for Jesse Baird and Luke Davies in Bungonia, two hours south of Sydney, police told reporters this evening.

Crime detectives have arrived at the scene, and a specialist forensic investigation will be carried out.

"On behalf of the New South Wales police force, I'd like to pass on my condolences to the Davies and Baird families, their friends, and the LGBTQIA+ communities in not just New South Wales, but across Australia," New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb told reporters.

Webb said detectives located a second crime scene in Bungonia 20 minutes away from the original location.

"We now know, or we believe, we're very confident that we have located Luke and Jesse."

The families of Baird and Davies have been informed.

Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said serving officer Beau Lamarre-Condon, who is accused of murdering the pair, provided assistance in the search for the couple's remains.

Around 1pm today, homicide squad detectives were called to the second location, where they found two surf bags containing "what they believe are the remains of Luke and Jesse" and "some other items of interest".

Police allege the surf bags were used to take the bodies from Paddington to Bungonia.

Doherty said the "state of the bodies won't be known until we do a proper crime scene investigation".

A post mortem will be carried out in due course.

Timeline of events

Police investigate a scene following the deaths of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.

Baird, a 26-year-old former TV presenter, and his boyfriend Luke Davies, a 29-year-old Qantas flight attendant, were last seen on Sunday, February 18.

Neighbours reported hearing gunshots the following morning. A call to police was made from Baird's phone but was soon disconnected.

Lamarre-Condon has been charged with allegedly murdering the pair using a police-issued firearm.

Police claim Lamarre-Condon hired a van on the evening of Monday, February 19 which was used to move the bodies to a location in Bungonia.

The firearm allegedly used in the murders was returned to the police inventory the following day.

Items belonging to Davies — including a watch, credit cards, and bloodied clothing — were discovered in a skip bin in Southern Sydney on Wednesday. A search of the couple's home by police revealed a "significant amount of blood" consistent with a fatal incident. During that time, Lamarre-Condon is believed to have driven to Bungonia in the hired van.

The officer surrendered to police at Bondi Beach Police Station several days later, on Friday, February 23.

The 28-year-old remains behind bars at Silverwater Jail after being denied bail.
