Neil Wagner has played his last Test for the Black Caps.
The energetic left-armer has announced his retirement from international cricket at the end of the series against Australia. But, he won't be selected in the first Test starting in Wellington on Thursday and will then be released from the squad ahead of game two in Christchurch, meaning his 64-Test career has all but come to an end.
Wagner's effort will be a lasting image of this current New Zealand cricket era. His constant never-stop attitude to bowling was highlighted against England in an enthralling last-gasp win at the Basin Reserve last year.

“It’s been an emotional week,” Wagner said. “It’s not easy to step away from something you’ve give so much to and got so much out of but it’s now time for others to step up and take this team forward.
“I’ve enjoyed every single moment of playing test cricket for the Black Caps and am proud of everything we’ve been able to achieve as a team."
He finishes his career sitting fifth on New Zealand's list of all-time test wicket-takers with 260, at an average of 27. His strike-rate of 52 is only bettered by the great Sir Richard Hadlee among those who have taken 100 Test wickets or more.
“I’m looking forward to one final week in camp and will be doing everything I can to help prepare and support the boys.”
Wagner debuted for the Black Caps against the West Indies in 2012 and was part of the side that lifted the World Test Championship mace in 2021.
