Why Harry and King Charles only met for 30 minutes during visit

February 12, 2024

A royal expert has revealed King Charles could only see his son Prince Harry for 30 minutes to keep his stress levels low as the monarch starts his cancer battle.

There has been a well-publicised rift between the 75-year-old King and his son – after Harry stepped down from his royal duties and moved to the US with his wife Meghan.

Following the King’s shock cancer diagnosis on Tuesday last week, Harry flew to the UK so he could see his father.

Speaking to The Sun, royal journalist Robert Jobson revealed the pair only met for around 30 minutes.

He said that this was in an attempt to keep the King’s stress levels low by avoiding any deeper topics.

"You don't want his blood pressure going up. The King's not very well. Whatever type of cancer it is, he's undergoing treatment."

"The best thing for him is calm," he said.

"After the initial kiss and hug, love you dad, hope you get better soon, what issues are going to get raised? Things that will get your blood pressure rising."

Following his meeting with Harry, it’s understood the King flew to his estate in Sandringham.

This morning, he and Queen Camilla were seen in public for the first time since the news broke.

They were photographed attending St Mary Magdalene Church.

It came after he thanked the public for their messages of support.

In a statement released yesterday, the King said: “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.

"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement."

He said it was "equally heartwarming" to hear how his diagnosis "has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and the wider world".
