One person has died after being found unresponsive in the water at Auckland's Cockle Bay this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.30pm, a police spokesperson confirmed.

"Despite efforts to resuscitate the person, they have since sadly died at the scene," said police.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
