The Police Association's calling for better pay to attract more police officers — with some reports of officers turning to food banks to make ends meet.

President Chris Cahill told Breakfast the rising cost of living is forcing officers to seek employment elsewhere with better pay.

"We can't compete with Australia and we can't compete with other professions at the moment."

From today there are new standardised guidelines to follow for what can be taken in home recycling collections.

ONE MINIMUM WAGE RISE

The adult minimum wage will increase by 2% to $23.15 an hour from April 1, the Government has announced.

It is currently $22.70 an hour.
