Around 100 vehicles were involved in a gang funeral procession in Porirua earlier today, police said.

The convoy made its way to the Whenua Tapu Cemetery from Tawa, with officers monitoring the funeral "to ensure behaviour did not impact other members of the public".

Over the course of the day, one vehicle was impounded, and a non-operation order was issued. An additional 12 infringement notices were handed out for "driving behaviour".

Kāpiti-Mana Relieving Area Commander Simon de Wit said: "Further enforcement action is likely."

Despite this, "no significant issues" were reported during the event, and attendees have since dispersed.

"Everyone should be safe and feel safe when out in the community and police will continue to enforce our clear expectations on motorists' behaviour on our roads," de Wit said.
