The police dive squad will be searching a section of Christchurch's Avon River as part of a homicide investigation into the death of David Bridgewater earlier this month.
David Karl Bridgwater, 38, was found dead with gunshot wounds on Aranui's Carisbrooke St at about 2.28am on Thursday, January 4.
Police confirmed at the time that an "unusual noise" led members of the public to call the police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said "items of interest", including a firearm, are being sought as part of the investigation, dubbed Operation Walter.
"Several people" have been spoken to, and "we expect to speak with a number of others and carry out further searches in other areas of interest", Baillie said.
"We are committed to thoroughly investigating the death of Mr Bridgewater," Baillie said.
"Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Bridgewater, his mother, brother and children who are still seeking answers as to what happened."
A 51-year-old woman was arrested last week and is due to reappear in court on February 16 charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Anyone with further information around Bridgewater's death has been urged to contact police.
