Radio star Simon Barnett has returned to work after the death of his beloved wife last year.
Jodi passed away in October 2023 after a five-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer.
Broadcasting on Newstalk ZB today, Barnett said: “I have been on the cusp of tears all day."
Co-host James Daniels welcomed him back saying: “I have got goosebumps. Nau mai, hoki mai."
Barnett described in an interview with the NZ Herald on Saturday how grateful he is for his listeners and what it's like being back at work.
"Since I started broadcasting, I’ve always wanted to be an authentic broadcaster - just tell it how it is, no fake news,” he said.
“To some extent, I will mention it, not at length, but it will come up, I’m sure, and I’ll acknowledge it. I won’t have any issues with acknowledging it or talking about it.
“Hopefully it will make me a more empathetic broadcaster. I will be mindful that Jodi just used to love to listen."
The couple, who lived in Christchurch, have four daughters together.
