Cordons are in place and Carisbrooke St is blocked.

A man found dead on a Christchurch street overnight yesterday has been named by police this evening.

He was David Karl Bridgwater, aged 38.

"Our sympathies are with his whānau and loved ones at this difficult time," police said.

Police said they were called to the scene on Carisbrooke St, near Portchester St, in Aranui, after reports of an "unusual noise" around 2.28am yesterday.

Police said in an update earlier this afternoon that they had received more than 20 pieces of information in the past 24 hours as part of their probe into the suspected homicide of Bridgwater.

Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves told 1News that officers had been given CCTV leads and told of sightings of a white 2006 Toyota Crown sedan believed to be owned by Bridgwater.

The vehicle, with registration plate LEQ895, "has a sunroof which makes it quite distinctive", she said.

While the sedan is currently "within our scene", Reeves said investigators are continuing to appeal for any sightings of the sedan or its movements before 2am on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said police were called after the 38-year-old was found dead in Carisbrooke St, near Portchester St, at about 2.28am.

Anyone with surveillance camera footage which could help with the investigation has been urged to contact police on 105, quoting Operation Walter.
