The New Zealand Football Ferns have drawn 0-0 with Colombia in Bogota this morning NZT.
The result is an improvement on the Football Ferns’ two defeats to Chile in Santiago in September but there will be a feeling they should have got more from the match.
One of the biggest chances of the game fell to the Ferns late on – Katie Bowen and Ava Collins colliding at an unmarked back post when contesting an Ally Green corner in the 77th minute.
The Ferns were fortunate not to go behind just before halftime when a header by Daniela Aris at a corner was allowed to bounce in the box up on to the crossbar.
New Zealand went into the first of two matches against Colombia – the second is on Wednesday and will also be broadcast live by TVNZ – after a disappointing tour of Chile and a mixed World Cup on home soil.
The Kiwis stunned the world when beating Norway 1-0 in a memorable match at Eden Park but then lost to the Philippines and drew against Switzerland and failed to get out of their group.
Colombia made the quarter-finals.
