A man has been arrested and charged following a violent home invasion in Hamilton last night where two women sustained serious injuries.
The pair were were attacked after the 22-year-old forced his way into their home on Paul Cres around 7.30pm.
The women were taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Mike Kaukau said the incident was "a terrifying event for the victims to endure".
"Everybody has the right to feel safe in their home."
The women are being provided with support.
Kaukau acknowledged that the incident would be concerning to the community.
"While we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public, police will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area."
The man is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow charged with burglary and two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
