A Vietnamese man suffering from severe headaches for months was shocked to discover a pair of chopsticks were lodged in his brain.
The discovery was made when a 35-year-old sought help for his headaches, fluid discharge and hearing loss at a hospital in Dong Hoi last week.
Following a CT scan, it was revealed he had pneumocephalus — a rare and potentially life-threatening condition caused by pressure on the brain.
Doctors soon found the cause of this was a pair of chopsticks that were shoved through his nose and into his brain.
He recalled being involved in a fight a number of months earlier while drinking.
When he visited the hospital after the fight, doctors told him there was nothing wrong — not finding any chopsticks.
The man believes the chopsticks were lodged into his nose before being shoved into his brain.
Doctors successfully removed the chopsticks and sealed a fistula in his brain.
The man is reported to be in a “stable condition", awaiting discharge from the hospital.
