A “substantial amount” meth and cannabis, alongside numerous guns, were seized by police in Hamilton yesterday after a rifle club was robbed.

Three search warrants were carried out by police’s tactical crime unit and armed offenders squad across Chartwell, Nawton and Whitiora yesterday afternoon.

The warrants were connected with the theft of 14 guns at the Hamilton Smallbore Rifle Club last month.

Yesterday, police “recovered eight of the stolen firearms, and on Wednesday located a further firearm stolen from the club".

They also seized a “substantial amount” of methamphetamine and cannabis, alongside shotgun ammunition.

Three men, aged 45, 25 and 26, were arrested and are set to appear in the Hamilton District Court later today.

“Police are dedicated to seeing the return of these stolen firearms, which in the wrong hands will cause harm in our communities, and will work to hold all of those involved to account,” detective senior sergeant Terri Wilson said.

Wilson said there is no wider risk to the public.
