An Aussie stunt performer has claimed the record for the highest motorcycle bungy jump in Queenstown this morning.

Robbie Maddison, an acclaimed motocross rider and daredevil, pulled off the feat at the Nevis Bungy near Queenstown — New Zealand's highest jump.

Maddison and his motorcycle were strapped to the bungy before driving off the platform over Nevis Canyon, doing a backflip as he plummeted down.

He was in freefall for around 134 metres — estimated to be around eight seconds.

The stuntman said he was desperate to do a stunt nobody had done before while visiting New Zealand.

"I live for insane experiences. I had the idea to come and leap off New Zealand's most notorious bungy jump on a motorbike. I'm in New Zealand, and I thought, why not!?

"New Zealand is known for its extreme, adrenaline junkie activities and with AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand being the world's first commercial bungy operation, even better. I'm buzzing from that experience!

"Considering something like this has never been done before, it was epic to be a part of!"

He thanked the team at AJ Hackett Bungy for helping him make the daring stunt possible.

"Robbie embodies a life that's about living more and fearing less, and we're delighted to support him achieve the world's highest motorbike bungy at the Nevis Playground in Queenstown," AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand co-founder Henry van Asch said.
