Police investigators are "focusing on an area of interest not previously searched" as they continue to investigate the disappearance of Jayden Mamfredos-Nair.
Mamfredos-Nair has been missing since April 21 — his disappearance sparked a homicide investigation.
The 19-year-old was last seen at the Birdwood Reserve in Auckland's Rānui in the company of two members of the Head Hunters.
Police said it is working with a "body deposition expert" who had previously worked with federal police in Australia.
"As a result of information received from the public, the Operation Violin investigation team is now focusing on searching a new area," Detective Inspector Callum McNeill said this morning.
"For operational reasons, we are not able to specify exactly where Police are searching today," he said.
"We will endeavour to update the public as the investigation allows."
He said that police "remain committed" to finding Mamfredos-Nair and "holding those responsible for Jayden's death to account".
"We are anticipating bringing this matter to a conclusion before Christmas."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 105, referencing Operation Violin.
