A Brisbane mother has died after waiting for more than an hour and a half for an ambulance that never arrived.

Cath Groom called for an ambulance after experiencing chest pains around 10.26pm on Friday, Nine reports.

While an ambulance was meant to arrive in 15 minutes due to the urgency of her case, none arrived despite placing multiple calls for help.

The 51-year-old cancelled the ambulance around 12am and went to sleep, her family said, intending to go to the hospital the next day.

Groom was found dead around 9.28am the following morning by her son.

In a statement, Queensland Ambulance Service said they had been "experiencing a high level of demand for service at the time of the 000 calls".

"The Queensland Ambulance Service's thoughts and condolences go out to the lady's family and friends," it read.

"QAS is undertaking a comprehensive review of the clinical and operational aspects of this case as well as referring to the coroner."
