Police are investigating the alleged murders of Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok and Mei Han Chong, who were described as "a loving couple whose careers involved helping other people".

Kwok, 66, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at his Ellerslie property on Monday, and on Friday police said Chong, 67, had been found deceased overnight in Greenithe with "blunt force injuries" to her head.

In recent days, police have charged two people in relation to murders, executed search warrants at "a number of addresses", and seized two vehicles believed to be linked to the crimes.

Police have released more details on the homicide investigation. (Source: 1News)

"It is beyond comprehension for the family as to how something like this could happen to Mei and Joseph," Detective inspector Scott Beard said this morning.

Police urge anyone with information on the murders, including sightings of a blue Kia Rio with number plates beginning with the letters MDM, to contact them immediately.

'A loving couple'

Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok and Mei Han Chong began their life in New Zealand after moving from Hong Kong in 1988.

Both had large families they cared for and supported, Chong being one of seven siblings and the only one to move to New Zealand. Kwok was one of six children, two of his siblings also living in the country.

Chong had been a nurse in Hong Kong before becoming a midwife. She was described as "a supportive mother to her and Joseph’s son – their only child – and a loving wife".

As a New Zealand immigrant, she felt the language barrier would be an issue for her as a nurse, so she focused on her family, including supporting her son's career path in medicine.

Chong enjoyed reading, following current affairs, and being a supportive mother and wife. She had close friends in Hong Kong and enjoyed being with them when they visited.

Though she was "very small in stature", she was "strong-minded and passionate about issues that were dear to her".

Kwok was an orthopaedic surgeon for many years and was described as "happy in his own world and [he] cared about supporting his family and doing a good job in his chosen profession".

He had been working incredibly hard and had gotten home from work at 11.30pm the night before he was murdered.

"Joseph and Mei were a loving couple whose careers involved helping other people," Beard wrote in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with them and their grieving family."
