New Zealand set a record net migration gain in the 12 months ending in August this year.
Stats NZ provisional estimates show a net migration gain of 110,200 people for the year.
Net migration is the difference between migrant arrivals and migrant departures. Migrants are defined as anyone changing their country of residence, regardless of their country of citizenship or their visa status.
"Annual migrant arrivals reached an all-time high of 225,400 in the August 2023 year," Stats NZ's Tehseen Islam said.
"The 115,100 migrant departures were just below the annual record of 117,400 in the February 2012 year."
Annual net migration first topped 100,000 in the July 2023 year, revised estimates showed.
"Net migration continues to be driven by non-New Zealand citizen arrivals, with about eight out of nine migrants arriving on a non-New Zealand passport," Islam said.
Migrant arrivals of non-NZ citizens were 199,500, up nearly 300% on last year.
