Dead whale washes up on Auckland beach

A dead whale has washed up at Red Beach on Auckland's Hibiscus Coast.

DOC operations manager Rebecca Rush said that the whale may have been deceased for a number of days prior to washing up.

They are currently working to identify the type of whale, potentially a pygmy blue whale.

DOC staff are on site and working with Ngati Manuhuri on any next steps.
