A man has been found dead in a Gisborne river after a single-vehicle crash.

Police said the crash happened about 3pm yesterday afternoon.

A man's body was found inside a vehicle in the Mata River next to Matahiia Rd, Ruatoria.

There was no one else in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The serious crash unit is investigating.
