Covid-19: 6 deaths reported, 1149 new cases

There are 1149 new Covid-19 community cases in New Zealand on Monday, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The numbers were reported over the last 24 hours.

There are 225 people are in hospital with the virus.

Three people are in an intensive care or a high dependency unit.

Six more people with the virus have died.

Of the six people who have died, three were from the Wellington region, two were from Bay of Plenty and one was from the Auckland region.

Three were in their 80s and three were aged over 90.

Four were men and two were women.

There are now a total of 1950 deaths confirmed as attributable to Covid-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor.

The seven-day rolling average of total deaths attributable to Covid-19 is five.

The seven-day rolling average of community cases is 1480, down from 1778 a week ago.

Monday's positive cases, detected through rapid antigen tests (RATs) and PCR tests, are located in Northland (44), Auckland (459), Waikato (112), Bay of Plenty (52), Lakes (27), Hawke's Bay (15), MidCentral (37), Whanganui (12), Taranaki (28), Tairāwhiti (10), Wairarapa (12), Capital and Coast (74), Hutt Valley (22), Nelson Marlborough (40), Canterbury (136), West Coast (5), South Canterbury (7) and Southern (49).

The location of eight cases is unknown.

An additional 81 people with Covid-19 had recently travelled overseas, the ministry said.

A total of 1821 PCR tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, while 3355 RAT results were reported.

The number of active community cases is 10,360. They were identified in the past seven days but have not yet been classified as recovered.

Weekend case numbers

The Ministry of Health no longer provides a full daily Covid-19 update on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday there were 911 Covid-19 community cases reported.

On Saturday there were 1388 Covid-19 community cases reported.
