Police are investigating after a toddler died under "suspicious" circumstances in Auckland on Sunday night.
The two-year-old girl was transported from their home in Weymouth to Starship Hospital in a critical condition under police escort, where they have since died.
"The child’s injuries are believed to be non-accidental and at this stage the death is being treated as suspicious," Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin told 1News in a statement.
A post-mortem is taking place on Monday morning.
A scene examination will be taking place at the address and police are speaking to the occupants as part of their inquiries.
The occupants at the address are currently self-isolating and police attending the address are wearing full PPE.
"Public health staff are working with police to ensure any public health risks involved in the investigation are appropriately managed," the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
"For privacy reasons, wherever possible, the Ministry of Health does not release personal information about individuals, including why they are self-isolating."
