A magnitude 5.5 earthquake has caused shaking in Fiordland this afternoon.
The quake struck at 4.09pm at a depth of 13 kilometres according to GeoNet.
"It was mostly felt in Southland and we have received over 500 felt reports for it," GeoNet tweeted.
"The Fiordland region tends to have a handful of quakes over M5.0 each year, and it's a good reminder to make sure you are quake ready."
