A man has died following a stabbing in the eastern Bay of Plenty early this morning.
The incident occurred in Waiōhau, in Whakatāne, at about 2am, police said.
Police are now following lines of inquiry into the 31-year-old man's death. Police later identified him as Jamaine Wharton.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or can provide police with information have been urged to contact police on 105, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
