State highway near Matamata closed after truck crashes, spilling asphalt

The Winton-Lornevile Highway, State Highway 27, is closed north of Matamata after a truck carrying asphalt crashed around 5am.

While the truck driver was not injured during the accident, asphalt from the vehicle spilled on the road and is expected to take some time to clean up. 

The highway remains closed between Dejoux Road and Gap Road West. 

Diversions are in place at Kereone Road and Maungakawa Road.
