Dane Coles may be missing from the team sheets for tomorrow's North-South match in Wellington but All Blacks teammate and fellow hooker Codie Taylor reckons he could still feature come game day.
Coles was ruled out of the match after picking up a calf muscle injury in his final Super Rugby Aotearoa match for the Hurricanes last month.
But Taylor, who will start in the South's No.2 jersey tomorrow, jokingly told media today he expects Coles to still get amongst the action.
"I know he was pretty keen to play this game," Taylor said of Coles.
"He might try and sneak into the stadium somehow and watch it and pump up those North boys!"
Tomorrow's match will be played without a crowd due to the current Alert Level 2 restrictions in place nationwide in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
For many, the game is their first time playing a North-South fixture, with the last being played back in 2012.
Coincidentally, Coles featured in that match eight years ago and managed to get himself squarely in the middle of a fight that broke out towards the end of the first half.
Coles was cited for striking in the incident but was later cleared, although Taylor believes he could test the judiciary again tomorrow.
"If there's fisticuffs on the field, I'm sure he'll probably run on the field," Taylor said of Coles.
"He doesn't run."
