State Highway 1 near Taupo reopens following closure due to bushfire

State Highway 1 near Taupo has now reopened following a bushfire this afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand were alerted to the fire, which spread over one hectare, about 15km south of Taupo at 1.15pm. 

Eight fire engines as well as helicopters attended the blaze.
