When Kieran Read signs off as an All Black against Wales this Friday, the long serving number eight won't line up for a Zinzan Brooke inspired drop goal.

Read, 34, will play his 126th and final Test match against Wales in the Rugby World Cup's third placed playoff on Friday night, before he leaves for Japanese side Toyota Verblitz.

Asked if he was going to put himself forward for a conversion to try and score some point in his final game though, Read suggested he's thought about taking things one step further.

"I would, but my leg would probably fall off," Read joked.

"It's the one thing my mates give me stick about a lot, I've never got a drop goal.

"I just don't see it happening unfortunately, I'd love to have a crack."

Despite the emotion involved in his farewell Test, Read says that he's simply going to stick with what he knows come kickoff in Tokyo.

"I'll just do my job. It's what I've done all my career, and [I'm] looking forward to doing it all again.

"I'm going to enjoy it, it'd be rude not to. [I'll] go and enjoy my moment out there, [for the] last time.

"[But] there's a job to do, so that's what I'll focus on."

However, Read can overtake Richie McCaw for the most tries as an All Blacks forward, needing just one more five-pointer to surpass his predecessor's tally of 27.
