One person dead in North Shore house fire

A person has died in a house fire in Castor Bay on Auckland's North Shore.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson told 1 NEWS they were alerted to the blaze on Taumata Rd at around 10pm yesterday evening.

Five appliances were sent.

St John also attended the scene but didn't treat any patients.

The fire is now extinguished and crews will remain at the scene overnight.

A fire investigator will return to the property in the morning.
