Richie Mo'unga couldn't help but smile, named to play in his first Rugby World Cup, included in Steve Hansen's 31-man squad to travel to Japan.
Mo'unga, 25, is one of two first-fives to make the cut for the World Cup squad, expected to feature as a key cog in the All Blacks' dual-playmaker strategy alongside Beauden Barrett.
Speaking to media today, Mo'unga revealed his joy at being able to compete at a World Cup, as the All Blacks bid for three straight titles.
"I've never been to a World Cup before, I'm not sure exactly what it takes," Mo'unga said.
"[I'm] really excited. It's an opportunity I've been dreaming about since I was little.
"I can't wait to get over there."
