Lorde has surprised students at her old drama school to watch a play she, too, starred in exactly 10 years ago.

The Kiwi singer attended Devonport Drama's Fairytale the Musical and posed for photos with young fan Lucy, who played the same character Lorde did in 2009.

A clip of the Auckland native performing in the show one decade earlier was uploaded to Instagram.

The 22-year-old also baked shortbread for the production crew.
