Motorcyclist dies following crash in Waimate, Canterbury

A motorcyclist has died at the scene of a crash involving a car on the Waimate Highway in Canterbury this morning.

The crash occurred at about 11.50am north of the Waitaki Bridge, police say.

Waitaki Bridge is closed and diversions are in place.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

The Serious Crash Unit is attending.
