Rising gang tensions in South Auckland have prompted a school to issue a warning letter to parents.

Police say they're aware of a note sent by Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Otara, which reportedly details temporary increased security measures.

Police say they weren't involved in the decision.

It comes amid fears of a gang war, after the president of the Killer Beez was shot at a Harley Davidson store in Auckland last Friday.
